Bulletin No. 9 (21 September 2011)

We are please to advise that the Nightclub has confirmed that the VIP lounge will be available to Members from 12.00 on Thursday 22nd September.

From then on provisional and start sheets will be available in the VIP lounge. (Five Day Members, your sheet will continue to be available in the Centre’s temporary accommodation before you go out to play).

The Captain’s speech will recommence and we hope to get sweeps and 2s going as soon as possible.

Bulletin No. 8 (14 September 2011)

We regret to advise that the VIP Bar in the Night Club will not now be available until next week.  We have been informed that they have not been able to finalise all the necessary arrangements such as a change to their Licence. Hopefully the Five Day Members will have access next Thursday, 22nd September and the rest of the Membership should be able to use the facility from Saturday 24th September.

We will confirm these arrangements as soon as possible.  In the meantime the New Greens Social Club is kindly allowing us to continue using their facilities.

The council have issued a newsletter to keep everyone up to date - BGTC Newsletter Issue 1 Click here

Bulletin No. 7 (2 September 2011)

We have been advised that the VIP Lounge in the Hall will not now be available until Thursday 15th September.  We are still very welcome at the New Greens Club, so we ask Members to meet there for another couple of weekends.  Please be aware that the New Greens Club is not expecting us at 10.30 tomorrow Saturday 3rd but will be open from midday.  We apologise for this last minute change of plans and thank you for your understanding.

 Bulletin No. 6 (30 August 2011)

Good News!

The Manager of Batchwood Hall Night Club has kindly offered to open the VIP bar in the Hall to Club Members. The bar will be open to us from Saturday, 3rd September and will be open thereafter on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  Opening times will be as per Club times.

We should be able to function in the same way as we did in our beloved Club House except that the signing in to competitions before play will take place in the Centre’s temporary accommodation.  The provisional sheet will be located in the bar and the start sheet will be circulated as before.  We hope to recommence the sweeps soon after we are operational in the VIP bar.

Presently the Licence does not allow for alcohol to be served before 12.00.  A revised Licence will be in place ,with luck, by the 10th September so Members will have to wait for their beer for a while next weekend.  The Five Day Members will have their first visit to the new location on Thursday 8th September.

Dress code will be as it was in our Club House.

 Other Matters

The fire site is to be demolished as soon as possible.  The gym section will remain standing until plans for the re-development of the site are agreed by the authorities.  The gym section has no functioning utilities connected to it and will not be used in any temporary way.

We are assuming for the moment that the site will be rebuilt as was, so we should eventually move back in to something similar to what we enjoyed before. If the authorities decide to re-develop the site on a “footprint” different to the existing one, they may approach us with a view to locating us elsewhere.  This may be still adjoined to the main building or it may be detached and away from the main building.  Over the coming weeks we shall consider alternative sites in case

It could be up to 24 months before redevelopment is complete.

Bulletin No. 5 (19 August 2011)

The Committee would like to thank the Members for all their messages, words and offers of support over the last few days.

Golf is up and running and procedures are back in place regarding tee times and entering competitions.  We hope that as many Members as possible will continue playing in Club times at Batchwood despite the current uncertainties regarding the interim replacement of our beloved Club House.

Accommodation

Leisure Connection are working hard on temporary accommodation for themselves.  This will include toilet facilities for the public.  Not only do they have to source building(s) but sewage, water and electricity supplies have to be considered.  It will probably be another week or two before anything is set up.

The Club is actively looking at accommodation solutions but is entirely dependant on what the authorities do.  We will advise Members of any developments.

New Greens Social Club has offered use of their Club at weekends and Members are encouraged to go there after golf on Saturdays and Sundays.  The Club is located in High Oaks in front of the parade of shops.

Bulletin No. 4 (15 August 2011)

Golf

We are pleased to report that the golf side of things is now fully operational.

From now on, the booking of tee times in Club times will proceed as before with the provisional sheet available in the Centre’s temporary office on the day of play.  Tee times will be posted on the website as usual and the Centre will have that information so that Club tee time bookings and cancellations can be made by phone as before.

Knockout competitions will carry on as usual.  The draw sheets are on the website.

On the day of play, a book (or sheet) will be available in order to sign in to the competition of the day and a receptacle will be provided in to which completed score cards should be deposited.  Results will be posted on the website.

Accommodation

As soon as there is news regarding temporary or alternative accommodation we will let Members know. The Committee is aware of all the derelict or vacant buildings or part buildings on the Batchwood estate as well as the Hall itself.

In the meantime, New Greens Residents Association Social Club has kindly allowed us to use their Club and we invite all Members to go there after golf from this weekend onwards particularly as this Saturday is International Day.  This venue is situated at 2 High Oaks opposite the parade of shops in New Greens adjacent to Batchwood.

Insurance

As a condition of the lease, the Club house building is covered by the Council’s insurance.  We do not yet know what the authorities’ plans are.

As for contents, we believe we have adequate cover and we are working with the loss adjuster and the insurers in that regard.

Bulletin No. 3 to all Members (13 August 2011)

The course is now open.  The Tennis Centre staff are operating out of the shelter next to the first until Monday when a Portakabin will be installed.

Until temporary accommodation for the Club can be sourced, Members are requested to sign in to competitions via a sheet or book which will be available in the abovementioned Portakabin.  Completed cards should be placed in the receptacle which will be provided.  A provisional sheet for the following week will also be available in the Portakabin.  The Competition Secretary will allocate tee times and post them on Master Scoreboard as usual.

The first of the provisional sheets (for next Sunday) will be available in the shelter by the first tee on Sunday 14th August.

Tuesday 16th August. The Ladies will play in the Birkdale Plate as planned.

Thursday 18th August.  Five Day Members and other Members are invited to pitch up in Club times and form ad hoc groups.  There will be no competition on that day.  We ask that the Seven Dayers give the usual priority to the Five Dayers. A sheet will be available for booking times for the following week and the procedure will continue thereafter as in the past.

Saturday 20st August.  The tee times are as already arranged last week before the fire.  International Day will continue as planned with all Saturday players welcome to retire to a nearby waterhole to be announced on the day or earlier.

Thereafter, all Club times and competitions will operate as before via sheets in the Portakabin or whatever temporary accommodation is in place.

There are photographs posted on this site for those interested. Click here.

The Committee is grateful to all Members for their patience and understanding during these uncertain days.  Please pass the word to other Members to consult this site for updates and to call the usual Tennis Centre number (01727 844250) for golf course information.
